Red Pepper is the dried, ripened fruit pod of Capsicum frutescents, one of the most pungent Capsicums. It is indigenous to the Caribbean and Central America and was commonly referred to as Red Cayenne Pepper, named after the high heat chilies grown in the vicinity of the Cayenne River in French Guiana.
Red pepper is frequently used to add zest to dishes. Red Pepper may be used to season meats, seafood, deviled eggs, soups and chowders, cottage and cream cheese, sauces, gravies, salad dressing, poultry game, vegetables, tamales, curries, ceviche, dips, spreads, Bloody Marys, omelets, souffles, croquettes, guacamole, barbecued beef and pork, and pizza sauce.
